Error 339: Component 'COMDLG32.OCX' ...

Post by Hansaplast »

Error 339: Component 'COMDLG32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.
Windows Vista Ultimate (retail).

PDFPrinter runs great on my 2 other computers with Windows Vista Home Premium.

Tried installing GhostScript and PDFPrinter as regular user and as administrator ... neither worked.

I did find on the Internet that TurboTax can screw up the COMDLG32.OCX - which is the only difference with the other 2 computers (I had TurboTax installed on the Vista Ultimate computer - not on the other 2).
(of course; no "fix" presented with that info)

Does anyone know a fix for this?

Forgot to mention that it involves Vista 32 bit...

It looks like an issue related to TurboTax. I looked through their support thread and found some suggenstions on what to do. It includes unregistering some of the files that cause the problem. Please see the following link:

Since others might run into this as well ...

The solution is Ludicrous simple ...
Type in a DOS box (Start->Run->cmd[enter]), or in the "Start Search" box in vista:

regsvr32 /u c:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx

Just unregister comdlg32.ocx, and the problem is gone ...

(Thanks jr! I overlooked that topic as they kept rambling about installing and uninstalling TurboTax)

Thanks for posting the specifics. I had no problems with this at all.

Given the large number of TurboTax users, it would be helpful to include this as an entry in the BullZip User Guide FAQ’s.

I’m sending a contribution to BullZip. It’s the best of its genre I’ve seen.

Same error, but it happens if I attempt to run Options. I tried the fix listed above and get this error...

The module "c:\windows\system32\comdlg.ocx failed to load.

Make sure the banary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files.

The specified module could not be found.

I did look for it at that path, and it is there. No clue how to debug it

This error can be caused by missing permissions on the file comdlg32.ocx and mscomctl.ocx in Windows\System32 (Windows\SysWOW64 on 64 bit systems). You should make this file inherit permissions from the parent folder or add read and execute permissions for normal users.

The next version (10.2) will make sure the security is setup correctly.

A thank you for the hint goes to Claus from Germany!
