Bullzip very slow through a slow Citrix-Connection

Post by logodrillo »

Hi,
I have a Windows 2k3 Server with Citrix Presentation Server 4 and Bullzip vers. 3.00.352 with ghostscript 8.6 installed.
When I start a Citrix-Connection from inside our network, Bullzip works fine and the pdf documents comes out very fast.
But if I connect from outside our network with a slow dsl connection to the Citrix Server, then bullzip takes allmost 3 or even more minutes until it prints the pdf documents.
Thats very annoying for our users and mostly they than just cancel the job.
Does anyone has an idea how to solve this problem?

Hi,

I know this was a while ago. Do you remember if the Bullzip Printer was installed on the Citrix server or on your local computer?

Hi,
thanks for your answer.
The Bullzip Printer and Ghostscript is installed on the Citrix Server not on local computers.
I'm still having the same problem. My users now, just don't print pdf document over citrix anymore.

Is it possible that you could post your environment variables to me?

1) Open a command prompt
2) Type the following command:

SET > x.txt

3) Post the content of x.txt on this thread

Got it!

The problem is that most windows distributions of Ghostscript have hardcoded references to the C drive in their search paths. This makes the Ghostscript access the C drive to look for files if they are not the normal resource search path. On Citrix systems, where the C drive is a mapped drive from the client computer, this process is very slow. It has to cross the network every time it looks for a missing resource file, such as a font. In order to prevent this from happening Ghostscript must be compiles with a different set of parameters.

If you download the latest gslite.exe distribution then the Ghostscript dll is patched to prevent this behavior. You can install it and overwrite the previous version installed. By default it is installed in C:\Program Files\Bullzip\PDF Writer\gs.

http://www.bullzip.com/download/gsl/gslite.exe

Let me know if it solves your problem.

Hello,

I have the latest version of Bullzip and Ghostscript installed on a Citrix environment. I am experiencing the same issues described below where it take a very long time for the PDF file to be written. Jacob mentioned that Ghostscript dll is patched to prevent this behavior, but it is not working for me.

I have disabled access to my local C drive from Citrix, but this has not helped.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

did you ever found out what was the reason ?
